Partner Agencies & Community Distribution

Partner Agencies & Community Distribution

NTFB works closely with more than 200 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other facilities to ensure that we get nutritious food to those who need it. These strategic partnerships are critical to fighting hunger in North Texas: In 2014, 84 percent of the food NTFB distributed was through Partner Agencies. In addition to providing food to these critical partners, we also work with these organizations to provide complementary nutrition-related programs including SNAP benefits outreach services, and nutrition-education workshops and courses

Agency University
Agency University is an educational training program established by NTFB to empower our Partner Agencies through tailored content. By holding live and online courses, Agency University presents Partner Agencies with accessible, valuable courses that contain relevant information to improve and expand programs to their clients. In 2014, more than 3,000 Agency Unversity hours were accessed by Partner Agency participants.

Food for Families
Pre-qualified clients of 14 participating agencies are issued a voucher for a specific food distribution. Clients gather at a designated time and location, and volunteers organize a drive-through line giving clients access to fresh produce, bread and other foods. In 2014, more than 425,000 pounds of food were distributed to 7,410 families and 23,645 individuals.

Food 4 Paws
Many consider their pets to be members of the family.  When families are experiencing hunger, purchasing pet food can seem completely out of reach.  The Food 4 Paws program enables the large-scale distribution of dog and cat food to families and individuals seeking assistance through NTFB Partner Agencies.  NTFB is proud to offer dog and cat food at no handling fee for agencies that choose to offer it.

Community Distribution Partnership (Crossroads Community Services)
Crossroads Community Services (CCS) in Downtown Dallas is a model food pantry provider and a NTFB redistribution partner. Through the hub-and-spoke project, CCS has replicated its nutrition based, client-focused pantry model at more than 50 Dallas County program sites or "spokes." CCS partners with smaller organizations including churches and housing communities. Rather than applying to become NTFB Partner Agencies, small organizations are able to provide high quality food assistance at the lowest possible cost and without the demands of operating a traditional pantry. The recipients of the the food become partners in the distribution process and help make the service much more accessible by picking up food in bulk at CCS and bringing it home for themselves and their neighbors. About half of the more than two million pounds of food per year that NTFB distributes to CCS reaches community members at home or close to home through "spokes."

Mobile Food Pantry
The NTFB currently delivers food boxes once a month to four locations in Dallas, Collin and Rockwall counties, distributing on average 25,174 pounds of food per month through its Mobile Food Pantry program. Food items in each box include pasta, rice, beans, canned fruit, canned vegetables, cereal, juice and snacks. Bottled water and produce is also included upon availability. This program, which provides emergency food boxes with 15 pounds of food per client, is designed to serve those who are unable to access a food pantry in their neighborhoods.

Our Community Pantry
Our Community PantryIn 2014, NTFB opened Our Community Pantry (OCP), a client-choice food pantry modeled after a traditional grocery store. OCP is located adjacent to St. Philip's School & Community Center in the heart of South Dallas.  Our Community Pantry is a learning lab, allowing NTFB to observe best practices that may serve as a model for other pantries and NTFB's Partner Agencies. Our Community Pantry is currently serving more than 300 households each month.
